こんにちは。わかまっちょです。
不思議の国のアリスでは前回、不思議なケーキを食べて大きくなりすぎたアリスが、扉を通り抜けられなくて大泣きしてしまうシーンまででした。
今回は、シロウサギが落としていった扇子のせいで急激に小さくなって、にっちもさっちもいかなくなるシーンまでのイラスト付き単語帳を描きました。
最後の方に、文中に出てきた単語の豆知識を載せているので、良かったら見てください(*^_^*)
戻ってきたシロウサギ
After a time Alice heard a little pattering of feet in the distance, and she hastily dried her eyes to see what was coming.
It was the White Rabbit returning, splendidly dressed, with a pair of white kid-gloves in one hand and a large fan in the other.
しばらくすると、パタパタとちっちゃな足音が遠くの方から聞こえてきました。
アリスはあわてて涙をぬぐって、誰が来るのかと目をこらしました。
あのシロウサギが戻ってきたのです。
立派な服を着て、片方の手に白い革手袋を、もう片方の手には大きな扇子を持っていました。
あのう、すみませんが・・・
Alice felt so desperate that she was ready to ask help of any one: so, when the Rabbit came near her, she began, in a low, timid voice, “If you please, Sir…”
The Rabbit started violently, dropped the white kid-gloves and the fan, and scurried away into the darkness as hard as he could go.
アリスは必死のあまり、もう誰でも良いから助けてもらおうと思っていたので、シロウサギが近づいてきたところでおそるおそる声をかけました。
「あのう、すみませんが・・・」
シロウサギはビックリして飛び上がった拍子に白い革手袋と扇子を落とし、これ以上は無理だと思うほど速く、暗闇の中へと走って逃げていってしまいました。
私が私じゃない
Alice took up the fan and gloves, and, as the hall was very hot, she kept fanning herself all the time she went on talking.
“How queer everything is to-day!
And yesterday things went on just as usual.
I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night?
But if I’m not the same, the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?'”
アリスは扇子と手袋を拾い上げました。
ホールはとても暑かったので、扇子であおぎながら、またひとり言を言いました。
「今日はなんておかしな日なんでしょう。
昨日はまったくもっていつも通りだったのに。
夜のうちに今までの私じゃなくなっちゃったのかしら。
でも、もし私が私じゃなかったら、いったいぜんたい私は誰になっちゃったのかしら。」
なんじゃこりゃ～！！
Alice looked down at her hands, and was surprised to see that she had put on one of the Rabbit’s little white kid-gloves while she was talking.
“How can I have done that?” she thought.
“I must be growing small again.”
自分の手に目をやったアリスはあっと驚きました。
ひとり言を言っているうちに、ウサギが落としていったちっちゃな白い革手袋を片方の手にはめているではありませんか。
「どうやってあの小さな手袋をはめることができたのかしら」とアリスは考えました。
「きっとまた体が小さくなっているんだわ。」
どんどん縮んでいく体
Alice got up and went to the table to measure herself by it, and found that she was now about two feet high, and was going on shrinking rapidly: she soon found out that the cause of this was the fan she was holding, and she dropped it hastily, just in time to save herself from shrinking away altogether.
アリスは立ち上がってテーブルのところへ行き、テーブルと自分の背を比べてみました。
今やもう60センチくらいになっていて、まだまだすごい速さでどんどん縮んでいます。
アリスはすぐに縮んでいる原因が手に持っている扇子のせいだと気づいて、あわてて床に放り投げました。
あとちょっとで消えてなくなってしまうところでした。
もう最悪だわ
“That was a narrow escape!” said Alice.
“And now for the garden!”
And she ran with all speed back to the little door; but alas! the little door was shut again, and the little golden key was lying on the glass table as before, “and things are worse than ever,” thought the poor child.
「本当に危なかったわ！」アリスは言いました。
「これでやっとお庭に行けるわね！」
アリスは小さな扉のところまで全速力で走って戻りました。
でも、ああ、どうしましょう！小さな扉はまたまた鍵がかかっていたのです。
そのうえ、ちっちゃな金色の鍵は前と同じくガラスのテーブルの上に置かれたままです。
かわいそうに、「もう最悪だわ」とアリスは思いました。
