世界最古のイノシシの壁画
Archaeologists have discovered stunning cave paintings including what might be the world’s oldest known depictions of animals in Indonesia.
The paintings of three wild pigs, alongside several hand prints, are believed to be drawn at least 45,500 years ago.
考古学者らがインドネシアで、世界最古とみられる動物の描写をはじめとする、すばらしい壁画を発見した。
イノシシ３匹と、その背後にある手形数個は、４万5,500年前に描かれたものとみられている。
大坂なおみ選手がルイ・ヴィトンの顔に
Naomi Osaka joins the Louis Vuitton family as the brand’s newest ambassador, who will appear in the label’s Spring-Summer 2021 campaign.
The French label announced the partnership alongside the campaign photos, in which Osaka is seen wearing a playful, kaleidoscopic minidress while holding a bag marked with the label’s distinctive monogram.
大坂なおみ選手が仏高級ブランド「ルイ・ヴィトン」の新たなブランド・アンバサダーに起用され、今年の春夏コレクションの広告に登場する。
ルイ・ヴィトンは提携の発表とともに、春夏コレクションの広告用に撮影した写真を公開した。
大阪選手が大胆な色使いのカラフルなミニワンピースを着て、ルイ・ヴィトンを象徴するモノグラム柄のバッグを手に持っている姿を見ることができる。
木造の人工衛星
Japanese logging company Sumitomo Forestry and Kyoto University have joined forces to develop what they hope will be the world’s first satellites made out of wood by 2023.
They have agreed to conduct research on tree growth and the use of wood materials in space.
Wooden satellites would burn up completely without releasing harmful substances into the atmosphere or raining debris on the ground when they plunge back to Earth.
住友林業と京都大学が2023年までに、世界初となる木造の人工衛星を共同開発することになった。
宇宙での樹木育成や木材利用についての研究に取り組む予定だ。
木造の人工衛星なら、地球に戻る際に大気に有害物質を放ったり、地上に破片を落とすことなく、完全に燃え尽きるという。
単語の豆知識
alongとalongside
どちらも「～に沿って」という意味ですが、
- alongは目的語が道路、廊下など細長い物の場合、「～の上（中）を通って」の意味になる
- alongsideは目的語そのものに接触している場合は使えない
という特徴があります。

kaleidoscopic
kaleidoscope （常に変化するもの・模様・状況・景色、万華鏡）
(= a pattern, situation, or scene that is always changing and has many details or bright colours)

be made of と be made from
make A from B A(物）をB（原料）から作る
主にBの質が変化する場合に用いる。
Cheese is made from milk.
make A (out) of B A(物）をB（材料）で作る
主にBの質が変化しない場合に用いる。
Aの材料が見た目でわかるような場合に多く使われる。
The table is made of wood.
物を作る過程に焦点を当てる場合はout ofの方が自然。
This sweet house is made entirely out of chocolate.

「ルイ・ヴィトン」のことをずっと「ルイス・ヴィトン」だと思っていました。
むしろ今でも、「そうは言っても本当は『ルイス・ヴィトン』でしょ？」と思っている自分がいます。
何年も前のこと、母が市電の中で金城武さんのことを「きんじょうたけしがさぁ・・・」と、周りの人にも聞こえていそうな感じの声で話し始めました。
ここは一応、訂正しておいた方がいいのかなと思って、「かあさん、『こんじょうたけし』だよ」と言うと、「ああ、そうなの？それで、こんじょうたけしがさぁ・・・」と続けたので、安心して話を聞いていました。
本当は「かねしろたけし」と読むことを知ったのは、だいぶ後になってからのお話です・・・
