A Michigan couple has welcomed their first daughter after 14 sons, nearly three decades after the birth of their first child.
The large family has been making headlines for years whenever they welcome a new baby and the stories mainly focused on the baby’s gender.
14人の息子を育ててきた米ミシガン州に住む夫婦に、第一子誕生から約30年を経て、初めて女の子が生まれた。
その大家族は長年、子供が生まれるたびにメディアに取り上げられ、子供の性別が話題の中心になっていた。
白いキリンにGPS
The world’s only known white giraffe has been fitted with a GPS tracking device to protect him from poachers in north-east Kenya.
The unique male giraffe now stands alone after poachers killed two of his family members in March.
The giraffe has a rare genetic condition called leucism, which results in the partial loss of skin pigmentation and makes it easy to spot for poachers on the arid savannah.
ケニアの北東部で密猟者から守るため、世界でただ1頭とみられる白いキリンにGPS（全地球無線測位システム）追跡機器を取り付けた。
3月に家族2頭が密猟者に殺されたため、残るはこの雄1頭だけになっている。
この白いキリンは、遺伝的に皮膚細胞に色素が少ない白変種という珍しい個体で、草原で姿が目立つため、密猟者に見つかりやすくなっている。
クリスマスツリーにフクロウ
A saw-whet owl was discovered clinging to the soon-to-be Rockefeller Christmas tree during tree transport from Oneonta, New York, to New York City.
The owl, nicknamed “Rockefeller,” had not had anything to eat or drink during his three-day road trip.
He is recovering at a wildlife refuge in New York state, and appears to be in great condition considering his adventurous week.
When he’s ready to fly again, Rockefeller will be released back into the wild.
米ニューヨーク州オネオンタで伐採されて、マンハッタン中心部のロックフェラーセンターに到着したクリスマスツリー用の大木の中に、アメリカキンメフクロウが隠れているのが見つかった。
「ロックフェラー」と命名されたそのフクロウは、輸送中の3日間、飲まず食わずだった。
ニューヨーク州の保護施設で休養を取っており、大冒険をしてきたわりには健康状態は良さそうだ。
ロックフェラーが再び飛べるようになったら、森の中に返す予定だ。
