「今年の100人の女性」に杜氏
A sake master brewer in Japan has been included in this year’s BBC list of the 100 “most inspiring and influential women” around the world, released on November 24.
She is one of the few female master brewers in the country, which historically forbade women to enter breweries for hundreds of years.
英BBC放送が11月24日に発表した、世界の人々に感動や影響を与えた「今年の100人の女性」に、日本から日本酒の杜氏が選ばれた。
歴史的に女性が酒蔵に入るのを長らく禁じてきた日本で、数少ない女性杜氏の一人である。

As the coronavirus pandemic keeps visitors away, the Louvre museum in Paris is offering the chance to get up close and personal with the “Mona Lisa” at an auction to help plug a gaping hole in its finances.
The winner will attend the annual examination of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, which is when one of the world’s most famous paintings is taken out of its case for inspection.
コロナウイルスの感染拡大により来館者の足が遠のく中、パリのルーブル美術館は収入の減少に歯止めをかけるため、モナリザの点検作業への立ち会いやプライベートツアーなどをオークションにかけている。
落札者はモナリザの年1回の点検に立ち会うことができる。
それは、世界で最も有名な絵画の1つがガラスケースから取り出される瞬間である。
民家のクリスマスツリーにコアラ
An Australian family discovered a koala had wandered into their home and climbed into their Christmas tree when they came home.
The koala was a healthy juvenile female and was released out into a large gum tree at the front of the house.
オーストラリアの民家にコアラが侵入し、クリスマスツリーによじ登っているのを帰宅した住民が発見した。
そのコアラは健康な若いメスで、家の前にある大きなユーカリの木に放されたという。
単語の豆知識
forbid（～することを強く禁じる）
forbid – forbade – forbidden

The doctor doesn’t allow me to smoke.（くだけて）
日常の表現ではis forbidden to doよりもis not allowed to doの方を使うことが多い。

英字新聞のこの3つの記事について、英語絵巻をご覧いただきました。
私のこれまでのmasterpieceは、高校生のときに描いた四コマ漫画です。
デメキンが敵を倒すために、自分の右目を鉄砲のように飛ばします。
ただ飛ばすだけだと右目がなくなってしまったので、左目は戻ってくるように、ニコッとしてブーメランの形にして飛ばしました。
目がブーメランのように弧を描いて、うまく自分の方に戻りながら飛んでくると、ちょうど口の中にスッポリと入ってしまった・・・というお話でした。
「すっごく面白い作品ができた！」と喜びすぎた私は、当時好きだった人へのバレンタインデーのチョコレートに、この四コマ漫画をそっと添えてしまいました。
その後、その彼から連絡が来なくなってしまったのは、ここだけの秘密・・・
